Questo è un film un po' strano, comunque abbastanza simpatico (per quanto lo possa essere un film horror). La storia è abbastanza originale rispetto ai soliti horror un po'. Orphan doesn't hold a candle to the aforementioned films, but its better than the more recent ones like Joshua (which, coincidentally, Vera Farmiga also starred in, as well as having the same role (mother)).

If Orphan were more exuberant -- a bit more diabolically crazy, a bit more swiftly paced -- it might be fun; as it is, the film bogs down over its two-plus hours. Farmiga and Sarsgaaard are both good -- even if they're forced, by circumstance, to play people far stupider than they are -- but they can't break out. At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves strangely drawn to a young girl named Esther. Almost as soon as they welcome Esther into their home, however, an alarming series of events begins to unfold, leading Kate to believe that there's something wrong with Esther-this seemingly. Orphan's own parentage doesn't on paper look promising - its director's back catalogue includes Paris Hilton vehicle House of Wax and Goal II: Living the Dream, but some impressively committed work from Farmiga (even when Googling "Children who kill") and a humdinger of a twist make this a rather good.
